Joel Finney, 27, Rodney Harcum, Sr., 53, killed, Latasha Hall, 26, seriously injured, airlifted to hospital, after a three-car crash on the Shug Jordan Parkway in Auburn.
Two die after Auburn crash.
Two people die following a three car crash in Auburn Tuesday morning, the Auburn Police Department says.
Emergency personnel responded to the crash on Shug Jordan Parkway between Wire Road and South College Street at 7:58a ct. Responding officers found one of the cars in the eastbound lanes. The two other cars had come to a stop off the roadway.
The Lee County Coroner pronounced Joel Finney, 27, and Rodney Harcum, Sr., 53, both of Notasulga, dead at the scene minutes after the crash. They were traveling in a red 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix.
"Both died from multiple blunt force impact injuries," the coroner said in a news release.
Latasha Hall, 26, of Tuskegee, was airlifted by helicopter to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment of her injuries. Auburn fire and medical personnel worked for 20 minutes to free her from her car, a 2004 Honda CRV.
The driver of the third vehicle, identified only as a 23-year-old male from Phenix City, was not injured in the crash. He was driving a gray 2009 Toyota Corrola.
A preliminary investigation has determined that the Honda and Toyota were traveling alongside each other when they made contact, police say. That lead to the Honda crashing head on with the Pontiac.
Harris says alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
Shug Jordan Parkway was closed for several hours Tuesday while crews investigated and worked to cleanup the crash.
