Everyone involved in the accident had their seatbelts buckled. Roads in the area were blocked in both directions after the crash until the scene could be cleared.
William B. Beck of Taylorville, Illinois. was traveling in his Ford Fusion on Florida 16 at 8:45 p.m. Charles Keith Missildine, 24, of St. Augustine, was driving behind him in a Ford Mustang. Beck attempted to make a U-turn on Florida 16. Missildine hit the left side of the Fusion. Beck was pronounced deceased at the crash site. His passenger, Patricia S. Beck, was transported to Flagler Hospital with minor injuries. Missildine was transported to UF Health Jacksonville hospital with serious injuries.
