Driver steals Jet Ski, abandons pickup truck after Midtown chase

According to APD Sgt. Todd Kearns, one of the officers at the scene, the incident began shortly before midnight Friday when the suspect -- described as a white man standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a goatee, black jacket and blue jeans -- took the Jet Ski from an industrial area off Dimond Boulevard.

Thursday evening, a man led police on a chase in a stolen truck towing a jet ski. He evaded on foot as officers pulled back due to public safety concerns.
A man stole a Jet Ski from an industrial area off Dimond Boulevard and loaded it onto a trailer on the back of a pickup truck, and headed north on Old Seward Highway. A witness called police and they caught up with him at International Airport Road and C Street. The officers attempted to stop the man, but he instead initiated a chase. Police chased for a short time before hanging back due to public safety concerns. The man had begun running red lights, and soon after he crashed into a traffic sign at Fireweed Lane and Arctic Boulevard. He then abandoned the truck and fled the scene. Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts should call APD at 786-8900.
