Driver killed in fiery Parks Highway crash near Ester

An unidentified driver was killed in a single-vehicle wreck discovered Sunday on the Parks Highway near Ester, after Alaska State Troopers say the sedan veered into trees and burned.

According to troopers, the driver was headed northbound when they lost control and veered off the roadway. The Buick went down a “steep embankment” before coming to rest near a “stand of trees,” the dispatch says.

It appears the driver was headed northbound, lost control and went down the embankment, according to troopers. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was found inside the car. Troopers have not determined how the fire started.
A driver was killed when their vehicle left the roadway, crashing into some trees and catching fire. Fire fighters were able to put out the blaze, but not in time to save the driver. The accident is still under investigation.
