32-year-old Matthew Chew Jriyasetapong was headed south on Jefferson Boulevard in a pickup truck at about 9:00 a.m., when he for some reason slowly veered into the oncoming lane and collided with a northbound semi-truck. The crash sent Jriyasetapong's mangled pickup truck into a roadside canal. It was then that volunteer fireman Dave Welch happened to see the wrecked vehicle in the water as he drove by. He quickly got out to assist Jriyasetapong, who was trapped in the vehicle, and prevented him from drowning until repsonders could free him. He was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition. The truck driver was uninjured.
After an injury car accident, take these steps to help the recovery process
When someone has been injured in a car crash, it's hard to know what to do to help. Injured people need appropriate medical treatment, but they also need to have their civil and legal rights protected.
After a serious crash, several steps need to be taken, including informing the insurance companies, tracking and documenting lost income from missed work, and coordinating medical bill payments. These are difficult tasks to manage when someone is dealing with severe injuries.
