Deputy John Charles Mecklenburg, 35, was flown to a Tampa hospital, where he died after losing control of his patrol car along U.S. Highway 41 during a chase. Authorities said Mecklenburg traveled on the shoulder and hit a tree, and the car burst into flames in Pasco County.
