Venice woman killed in two-vehicle crash.

A 76-year-old Venice woman died Saturday afternoon from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Tamiami Trail in Nokomis.

A 76-year-old Venice woman died Saturday afternoon from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Tamiami Trail in Nokomis.

Joy L. Van Brunt was airlifted to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton where she later died. The incident occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report Ralph S. Van Brunt was traveling south approaching the Roberts Rd. intersection in his 2007 Toyota when he attempted to make a left-hand turn into the Spanish Lakes subdivision.

Van Brunt’s vehicle veered directly into the path of a 2004 Ford F-250 pick-up truck driven by Margaret Niklas of Arcadia. The truck struck the passenger side of the Toyota.

Ralph S. Van Brunt, 81, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Venice Hospital.

Niklas, 48, also suffered serious injuries and was transported to Venice Hospital. There were two passengers’ in Niklas vehicle. One suffered minor injuries and was taken to Venice Hospital; the second passenger was not hurt.

Mr. Van Brunt was issued a citation for violating the right of way.
