Jennifer Lee Wolfe, 35, killed, after her car crashes into a retention pond on 28th Street near St. Petersburg in Pinellas County.

The husband of a St. Petersburg woman who was killed Monday morning after driving into a retention pond near her home, says his wife called him shortly before she died and told him she was cut off by another driver. James Wolfe was very upset about what happened to his wife, Jennifer Lee Wolfe, 35, when he spoke to the media He said that his wife had called him on her way back from Walmart to say she had driven into a retention pond near their home after being cut off by driver on 28th Street North. Wolfe says, when heard from his wife she was frantic. “She begged me to come find her, she said nobody stopped and nobody saw what happened,” said Wolfe. Wolfe went on to say one of the last things before she hung up the phone was “I heard her kind of scream, and then it sounded like water.” Investigators say the accident happened at about 12:36 a.m. Wolfe was driving north on 28th Street near 118th Avenue North and Scherer Drive North when she hit a sign, went across the southbound lanes and then into a nearby pond. According to SPPD, Wolfe called 911 and hung up. Operators tried to call her back, but did not get a response. They also could not locate the location where she made the call. At 12:57 a.m. James Wolfe called 911 to report his wife had called him saying that she had been run off the road (her words according to the husband) and she had driven into pond in the area of 118th Avenue and 28th Street. Wolfe went to search for his wife. Pinellas County Sheriff's Office helicopter and Pinellas Park Police joined the search effort. They found the van at about 1:16 a.m. Wolfe was unconscious and CPR efforts where made before she was transported to Northside Hospital where she was pronounced deceased, according to SPPD. Authorities said Jennifer Wolfe was the only person in the car. The dive team also found a sedan in the pond. Authorities said it was unrelated to the accident. St Petersburg say they do not have a description of the other vehicle. Pinellas Park Police and St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue are investigating the incident.
