Woman, 24, killed by hit-and-run driver in St. Pete, man arrested

A 24-year-old St. Petersburg woman was killed by a hit-and-run driver Saturday night, and the man responsible has been arrested, police said.

Investigators say Parker was traveling at a high rate of speed when he struck the victim.
At about 8:20 p.m, Samantha Michelle Adamczyk-Fortner was walking across 34th Street N (U.S. 19) in the 1200 block when she was hit in the southbound center lane by a speeding 1997 four-door Oldsmobile. Adamczyk-Fortner was thrown onto the windshield and then the pavement, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, later identified as 26-year-old Brandon Russell Charles Parker of Pinellas Park, continued driving. He turned into a neighborhood and later made his way downtown and was caught leaving his damaged vehicle on 1st Street S just south of Central Avenue. Parker was arrested and later charged with DUI manslaughter, driving with a suspended/revoked license and causing a death, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, possession of hydrocodone and possession of alprazolam (Xanax).
