At about 5:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving, police say 31-year-old Anthony Neeley of Seminole was driving his 2003 Porsche SUV nearly 100 mph when slammed into a 2009 Toyota Corolla at the intersection of 34th Street and Central Avenue, instantly killing Douglas Simpson, 64, and Christina Simpson, 53, of St. Petersburg. It appears that Neeley was traveling east in the curb lane on Central Avenue when he slammed his Porsche SUV into a Toyota Corolla as it was trying to turn south onto 34th Street. The Toyota to come to rest on the southeast corner of the intersection, while the Porsche rolled over several times and came to rest on the south side of Central Avenue. Neeley survived the collision with minor injuries.
Prior to the crash that killed the Simpsons, about 20 blocks away, Neely hit another car driven by Marjorie Sutherland, whose vehicle was also hit by Neeley's SUV on 58th street.
Neely was reportedly topping speeds of 100 mph and had a blood alcohol level over the legal limit of .08.
