Tow truck driver killed on I-20

A broken down Pontiac Grand Prix and a Ford F-450 tow truck were in the emergency lane when a Chevrolet Silverado drifted into the emergency lane and struck the driver.

A tow-truck driver was struck and killed while trying to help a disabled vehicle on I-20. The accident happened at about 2 p.m. Tuesday on the westbound side of the interstate near the Glenwood Avenue exit. A broken down Pontiac Grand Prix and a Ford F-450 tow truck were in the emergency lane when a Chevrolet Silverado drifted into the emergency lane and struck the driver, identified as Patrick Brownlee, 45, of Stone Mountain, who was standing outside of the vehicle preparing to load the Pontiac onto the tow truck. According to DeKalb County police, Brownlee was trapped underneath the axle of the truck. Police and fire crews worked to pull his body from the vehicle. Brownlee was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Silverado was identified as William Watson, 21, of Douglasville. It is unclear what, if any, charges he will face.
