Driver killed after police chase ends in fiery crash at Moreland Avenue and Berne Street in Atlanta, Georgia
Man dies in fiery crash involving Gainesville pickup truck
The truck was stolen from outside a Norfolk Southern building on Industrial Boulevard in Gainesville, according to Gainesville Police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook.
A police chase in Atlanta began around 1 a.m. Friday when an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Martin Luther King Jr. and Jesse Hill Jr. drives and the driver of a 2005 gray Ford F-150 pickup did not stop. The truck headed east on Memorial Drive, while the police cruiser persued with lights on and sirens activated. The truck hit a curb at Memorial and Moreland Avenue, traveled onto the grass and struck a metal sign, went into a parking lot and then headed south on Moreland before losing control at the intersection of Berne Street after passing a car in the right lane of Moreland. The pickup went across the northbound lanes before departing the roadway and striking a tree head-on. The pickup became engulfed in flames, trapping the driver. He died at the scene.
