O'Brian taught family and consumer sciences at Lakeside in northeast Atlanta and served as a dance team sponsor. The two teenagers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"Everyone loves people who give. She always gave first and gave second and gave third. She was on her way to give that night when the tragedy occurred," said Aaron O'Brien, Leah's brother.

Authorities said Pedemonte was driving an 18-year-old woman to Lakeside High's prom Saturday night when he collided with O'Brien's vehicle on Scott Boulevard in Decatur.

Teacher killed in crash laid to rest

She was laid to rest Saturday in front of friends and family at St. Phillip Ame church. "Whatever mood you were in when she came in, you didn't leave the same," says Sonya Williams, the godmother of O'Brien. "She would refuse to leave you the same way she left you."

Leah O'Brien, 33, died in a Saturday night car crash in Decatur. O'Brien was a 5-year veteran teacher at Lakeside High School.  O'Brien was in her car with her 8-year-old daughter turning onto Scott Boulevard from Ridley Circle, when she was hit by another car occupied by two teens who were heading to the Lakeside prom. The child was transported to a local hospital where she is currently in stable condition. The two teens were transported with non-life-threatening injuries to a different hospital. The driver of the other vehicle, Ramiro Pedemonte, was later charged with homicide, reckless driving and serious injury by vehicle.
