Firefighters extricated Cruz, the driver of the Chevy sedan, from his vehicle. He was taken to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

At approximately 10 a.m Saturday, Frye was heading east on Kaumualii Highway in a Ford F150 truck, just west of Halfway Bridge. He attempted to overtake a Ford Mustang using the east shoulder, when the truck clipped the Mustang’s front end, causing the truck to cross the center lane and broadside a Chevy sedan.

Former Kauai man indicted for manslaughter in deadly crash

He has now been charged with manslaughter, second-degree negligent homicide, second-degree reckless endangering and reckless driving. Frye is currently wanted on a bench warrant with bail set at $100,000.
Joseph Frye, 36, was driving on Kaumualii Highway when he clipped the front end of another vehicle, crossed the centerline, and broadsided a vehicle driven by Jonathan Renti Cruz. Cruz was taken to a local medical center where he was pronounced dead. Frye was treated at a hospital and is now facing charges of criminal property damage, reckless endangering, attempted assault, reckless driving and manslaughter.
