23-year-old man critically injured, transported to hospital, after he falls out of the bed of a pickup on the Kula Highway near Kula on Maui.

A man was rushed to the hospital after an accident on Kula Highway on Maui.

The incident happened at about 7:45 p.m. Sunday near Kealakapu Road in Kula.

Police say when a 23-year-old man was driving a white 1999 Toyota Tacoma pick-up north on Kula Highway, a 23-year-old passenger climbed out of the cab of the truck through the rear sliding window and into the bed of the truck.

The man fell out of the truck’s bed while the truck was moving. He was transported to the hospital in critical life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say the involvement of speed, drugs, alcohol has not been determined as the investigation is still pending.
