4-year-old boy seriously injured, transported to hospital, after he is run over by a car, driven by Mykala K, Robinson, 21, while riding his bicycle on Oakland Avenue in Joliet.

A 4-year-old boy was seriously injured Sunday after being run over by a car while riding his bicycle.

The child suffered a dislocated left hip, broken right femur and fractured left fibula and tibia, but his injuries are not considered life-threatening. He is being treated at Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn.

Police said the accident happened about 6:30 p.m. in the alley behind the 900 block of Oakland Avenue.

The child was riding out of a driveway into the alley when he was hit by a 1999 Ford Taurus driven by Mykala K. Robinson, 21.

“He became lodged under the vehicle and witnesses used a jack to raise the car off of him before firefighters arrived,” Roechner said.

Roechner said officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the Taurus and Robinson admitted smoking it just before the crash.

Robinson, of the 900 block of Wilcox Street, was arrested and booked into the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated driving under the influence and driving under the influence of drugs.
