Hobart Man Injured After Crashing Pickup On I-80/94.
A northwest Indiana man was injured when he lost control of his pickup on a rain-slick I-80/94 Thursday morning, and the vehicle slammed into two semi trucks.
The accident happened about 6 a.m. when a 1999 Ford pickup was westbound in the left lane of I-80/94 about a mile east of Burr Street in Gary when the driver lost control, according to Indiana State Police.
The pickup went off the road to the left, then re-entered the interstate and hit a 1998 Freightliner semi pulling a box trailer in the left middle lane, according to ISP. The pickup then “spun out of control into the right middle lane,” where it hit a 2014 Freightliner pulling double trailers, a statement from ISP said.
The driver of the pickup, 48-year-old Calvin Bryan of Hobart, Ind., suffered non-life-threatening head injuries and was taken to Methodist Hospital North Lake in Gary, police said. His truck was a total loss.
The first semi, driven by David C. Flory, 49 of Paw Paw, Mich., was owned by Dave’s Concrete Products of Lawton, Mich. The truck was hauling flowers, but none of the load was lost. Flory was not injured.
The second semi, driven by David R. See, 56 of McHenry, was owned by Conway Freight Inc. of Ann Arbor, Mich. Its load was not lost and See was not injured, according to ISP.
Two lanes of I-80/94 were closed for more than an hour, but all lanes were reopened by 7:30 a.m.
