Three people were killed in a crash after a freight train hit a vehicle in Gary, Indiana Tuesday morning. Gary police said the crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. at Miller Avenue and Howard Street. Police said three people inside of the vehicle were killed.
A witness who was waiting at the crossing said when the gates started coming down, one car went over the tracks, and made it through the crossing before the train. That’s when she saw the silver Chevy pull around her car and attempt the same move.
Two children and a woman died when a freight train struck their vehicle while it was in a railroad crossing, Indiana cops say, according to media reports.
Deniya Brown, 11, Deyki Mitchell, 13 and Shermika Herbert, 37, were pronounced dead after being ejected from their vehicle upon impact of a passing train, the Lake County Coroner's Office confirmed Tuesday.
