Robert P. Deakin, 46, killed in semi truck crash on Interstate 70 on July 14.

Police have identified a tractor-trailer driver killed in a crash on I-70 in Putnam County on Monday. The driver was Robert P. Deakin, age 46, of Avon, Indiana. The coroner found the cause of death was blunt force trauma. The crash occurred at around 12:36 pm Monday in the westbound lanes on I-70 near the 30 mile marker. Indiana State Police say traffic was slowing down for a construction zone and moving into the right lane. A westbound tractor-trailer failed to slow down and rear-ended another tractor-trailer. The impact sent that vehicle into a passenger car. The driver of the tractor-trailer that failed to stop was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not identified him. Both vehicles were unloaded at the time of the crash. The two other drivers involved were taken to Putnam County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Assisting on the crash were troopers from the Putnamville Post, Putnam County Sheriff's Office, Putnam County Coroner Dave Brown, Putnam County EMS and Cloverdale and Reelsville Fire Departments.
