Greenfield man has died Sunday after his parachute failed to deploy while skydiving, witnesses told authorities.

A Greenfield man has died Sunday after his parachute failed to deploy while skydiving, witnesses told authorities.

The witnesses tried to help the man after he “landed hard on the ground” near the Franklin Flying Field, 3477 S. 200 East, about 4 miles south of Franklin, said a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Donald Wayne Hauck, 50, died after emergency personnel worked for an extended period of time to revive him.

“Witnesses indicate his parachute did not deploy. Approximately 100 feet off the ground he performed a maneuver and his parachute did not recover and he landed hard on the ground,” the release said.

The release did not say what time the accident occurred.
