Wife killed, husband and other driver injured in crash on U.S. 31

Debra Coomer, who was in the front seat of the Corolla was pronounced dead at the scene. Thomas Coomer and the driver of the Uplander, Timothy Brock, 60, suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for treatment.

One Killed, Two Injured In Jackson County Accident

Sgt. Helms was assisted at the scene by Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Vernon Township Fire Department, and the Jackson County Coroner's Office.

Thomas Coomer, 58, was with his wife, Debra Coomer, 55, in their 2008 Toyota Corolla waiting to turn left so they could go north on U.S. 31. A driver in the southbound lanes motioned for Coomer to pull out and move in front of a semi that was stopped in the southbound lane. When Coomer started to drive his vehicle was hit broadside by a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander. Debra Coomer, who was in the front seat of the Corolla was pronounced dead at the scene. Thomas Coomer and the driver of the Uplander, Timothy Brock, 60, suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for treatment. The road was closed for several hours while crews worked to clean up the scene.
