Woman critically injured in rollover accident on I-264 in Louisville, Kentucky

A woman is in critical condition following a rollover crash on I-264 at Poplar Level Road early Friday. Jerry Redden tells WDRB that he was sitting at a traffic light at Poplar Level about 3 a.m., when he heard a pop. When he turned his head to look, he saw a car flip several times through a guardrail and on to a car traveling on the Watterson Expressway. "I was sitting there at the stoplight coming off the Watterson eastbound there at Poplar Level," Redden said. "And I heard tires squealing and squalling, and I heard a thump. I looked over to my left and I saw tail lights doing a barrel roll through the air. And then I heard it hit, and I looked down and saw it land on its roof there on the Watterson westbound." The interstate was closed for about three hours, as Louisville Metro Police investigated. Spokeswoman Alicia Smiley says investigators believe the woman was driving at a high rate of speed on Poplar Level Road when she lost control and rolled down an embankment and into traffic on the Watterson. The driver of the second car was taken to Audubon Hospital for observation.
