Jacob Courville, 22, Jamie Prejean, 29, and two passengers killed, and Joshua Lejeune, 24, Chaman Richardson, 48 injured in crash on La. 13 on May 30.

Four people died and two were injured, one critically, in a Friday afternoon head-on collision on La. 13 in Acadia Parish, State Police said.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. just south of Eunice when a 2005 Honda Civic headed north crossed the highway’s center line, for reasons still under investigation, and struck a southbound 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, Trooper 1st Class Stephen Hammons, a State Police spokesman, said in a news release.

The Honda’s driver, 22-year-old Jacob Courville, of Eunice, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office, Hammons said.

Two of the Honda’s passengers, who Hammons identified only as a male and a female, were not wearing seat belts and were pronounced dead at the scene.

A third passenger, Joshua Lejeune, 24, of Port Barre, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Lejeune wasn’t wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Hammons said.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 48-year-old Chaman Richardson, of Mamou, was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. He was wearing a seat belt, Hammons said.

A passenger in the Chevrolet who was not wearing a seat belt, Jamie Prejean, 29, also of Mamou, was pronounced dead at the scene, Hammons said.

Troopers do not know if impairment was a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Hammons said.
