A Mississippi man died Sunday night after his car ran off the side of Interstate 55, struck an embankment and overturned several times before stopping in a water-filled creek, a State Police spokesman said. A Louisiana Master Trooper said Bobby E. Ross, 59, of McComb, Miss., was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. Troopers suspect Ross was speeding north in his 1994 Mercedes 320 on I-55, near the Louisiana-Mississippi border in Tangipahoa Parish, at about 7:40 p.m. when the car ran off the left side of the road, crossed the median, struck the embankment and ended up on its roof in the creek, the trooper said. Troopers do not suspect Ross had been drinking, but a blood sample was collected and sent to the State Crime Lab for analysis, the trooper said. The crash remains under investigation.
