Chihuahua distracts big-rig driver, truck overturns along I-12

Distracted by his Chihuahua, the driver of an 18-wheeler ran off Interstate 12 and overturned early Wednesday (March 25) north of Lacombe, authorities said.

Truck driver Gary Edmond Bessant was driving an 18-wheeler that was hauling coffee on Interstate 12 when his Chihuahua, that was in the passenger seat, distracted him. The truck ran ont the shoulder, Bessant overcorrected and the truck overturned on the highway. The dog died in the accident. Bessant was able to leave the cab on his own and was not hurt.
