Hammond man killed in car crash early Thursday: State Police

Troopers blamed "speed and lack of seat belt as the primary factors in the crash." 
A 37-year-old Hammond man died Thursday in a single-vehicle car accident near Ponchatoula. Nolan K. Bel was heading southbound on US 51 when he took the southbound ramp to I-55 too quickly, exited the roadway and flipped. Bel wasn't wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.
