Based on the team’s initial reconstruction, Garcia lost control of his moped on the right shoulder of the road, tried to regain control and cross the oncoming lane where he collided with a pickup truck driven by Jonathan Rich of Chilmark.
A 22-year-old city man was killed early Wednesday afternoon in a moped accident on Martha’s Vineyard, Chilmark police said.
Police identified the victim as Alexandro Garcia.
Officers were summoned to a report of an accident on South Road shortly before 12:30 a.m., according to a release issued by police.
They found Garcia on the road and it was determined that he died from his injuries.
The state police accident reconstruction team was summoned to the island. Based on the team’s initial reconstruction, Garcia lost control of his moped on the right shoulder of the road, tried to regain control and cross the oncoming lane where he collided with a pickup truck driven by Jonathan Rich of Chilmark.
No other operators were involved and no charges are expected to be filed.
Garcia was an employee of Sun & Fun Moped Rentals in Oak Bluffs. He was on his day off and traveling by himself, police said.
