A woman jogging along Route 117 was seriously injured Friday morning when a vehicle struck her from behind, the police said.

Jogger hit by car on Rt. 117 in Bolton.

A jogger was struck by a car shortly about 9 this morning on the westbound side of Route 117, just east of Route 110, according to police.

A woman jogging along Route 117 was seriously injured Friday morning when a vehicle struck her from behind, the police said.

At about 8:56 a.m., police received a 911 call reporting a pedestrian had been struck on Route 117 westbound near the intersection with Route 110. When officers arrived, they found a 39-year-old Bolton woman had been hit while she was jogging in the breakdown lane.

The driver stopped immediately to help provide first aid, the police said.

The jogger was thrown at least 20 feet and suffered serious injuries. A Medflight helicopter was called but was delayed, so the woman was taken by ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, the police said. She was conscious during the trip to the hospital.

The driver was not injured in the crash, the police said.

Route 117 was closed in both directions until 11:30 a.m. while investigators worked at the crash scene.

The driver, who is in his late 50s, will likely face motor vehicle violation charges, the police said.

The Massachusetts State Police is conducting an accident reconstruction investigation.
