Fatal crash closes eastbound I-94 near Ann Arbor

Authorities were called about 6:10 p.m. Feb. 24 to a crash between a semi-truck and car on eastbound I-94 at Michigan Avenue, said Joyce Williams of Huron Valley Ambulance. One person was pronounced dead and another was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in critical condition, Williams said.

She notes the wintery mix of freezing rain and snow and the rapid change in weather patterns may have contributed to the conditions leading up to the accident.

Dusuba Kava, a native of Guinea, was killed when the car she was a passenger in collided with a semi-truck on I-94, said Michigan State Police Sgt. Mark Thompson. On Wednesday, Feb. 24, Kava and a 30-year-old Ann Arbor woman were traveling eastbound on I-94  in Pittsfield Township when their 2001 Honda drifted into the left shoulder, and then somehow veered in front of a semi-truck.

Kava graduated from Ann Arbor's Pioneer High School in 2013, according to her Facebook page. Her aunt Isata Jabbie-Conteh of Silver Spring, Maryland, said her niece was beautiful inside and out.
