The crash came after a reported carjacking at 1:55 a.m. in the area of Van Dyke and Outer Drive. A police patrol saw the 1994 Dodge Duster shortly afterward, and a pursuit ensued, Sgt. Michael Woody with Detroit Police Department said.
The Dodge hit a pole at a high speed on 7 Mile Road east of Hoover Street, ejecting and killing one while trapping the two others inside. Emergency rigs used the Jaws of Life to pull them out, and they remain in serious condition with non-life-threatening injuries, Woody said.
