Michigan woman gets 3 to 15 years in crash that killed teens

Laken Williams of Lexington was sentenced Wednesday in Sanilac County Circuit Court to three to 15 years in prison. She pleaded guilty in early December to two counts of reckless driving causing death in the crash that killed 17-year-old Danielle Torrez and 18-year-old Dakota Moore. Authorities say Williams was driving 100 mph on a gravel road in October 2014 when she lost control of the vehicle, about 70 miles north of Detroit. The car flipped several times, and Torrez and Moore were ejected. The Times Herald of Port Huron (http://bwne.ws/1Q7IuAu ) reports that the judge said he hopes Williams' sentence will send a message to other drivers.

“I am glad that with these charges, the families can begin to find closure," Biniecki said, "and for people to realize there are consequences for their actions."
Sanilac County Sheriff's deputies arrested Laken Williams, 21, of Lexington on January 26 for the October 28, 2014, high-speed rollover crash on Roach Road west of Croswell Road in Lexington Township that killed 18-year-old Dakota Moore and 17-year-old Danielle Torrez. Williams was arraigned on two 15-year felony counts of reckless driving causing death; one count of false report of a felony and one high court misdemeanor count of lying to a peace officer. Williams originally claimed to be a passenger was the only survivor. The two teens were ejected from the vehicle and died.
