North-Central Minn. Crash Kills 2 Teens

PARK RAPIDS, Minn. (AP) - Two teens killed in a crash on an icy highway in northern Minnesota have been identified. The Minnesota State Patrol says 16-year-old Jacob Bruns of Laporte and 16-year-old Kiara Renollette of Bemidji died Wednesday evening when Bruns lost control of his car on Highway 71 in Hubbard County and was struck broadside by an oncoming pickup truck. The driver of the pickup, from Park Rapids, was seriously injured.  

Laporte Boy, Bemidji Girl Killed in Hubbard County Crash

Jacob Bruns of Laporte and Kiara Renollette of Bemidji, both 16, were killed in the crash. Two northern Minnesota teens have died in a head-on crash on an icy road in Hubbard County. The driver was Shannon J. Jay of Park Rapids. Wednesday when the driver,  lost control, veered into the northbound lane and struck an oncoming truck. Jay is in serious condition at Sanford Hospital in Bemidji.

Two 16-year-olds die in crash with semi on icy Hwy. 71 in Hubbard County

Road conditions were icy as the two 16-year-olds — one boy and one girl — headed south on Hwy. 71 around 6:30 p.m. The driver, who has yet to be identified, lost control of the sedan and veered into the northbound lane, where it was struck by an oncoming truck. Both teenagers were killed in the crash, according to the State Patrol. The male was from the tiny town of Laporte, Minn., while the girl was from Bemidji. Their names have not yet been released.
