31-year-old man struck by car in east Las Vegas Valley has died

A 31-year-old man struck by a car while crossing an east valley street died Tuesday, Las Vegas police say. The pedestrian, identified as Kurtis Schmidt by the Clark County coroner's office, died at University Medical Center, Metro said Wednesday in a news release. Maria Hernandez, 49, of Las Vegas, was eastbound on Owens in a 2009 Jaguar XF when she struck Schmidt, who was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk, the release said. He was struck just before 9 p.m. Monday in the intersection of Owens Avenue and Marion Drive.

The crash happened shortly before 9 p.m. Metro Police say the man was crossing the street, when a 2009 Jaguar that was traveling east on Owens struck him.
