Authorities say a mail truck struck a woman crossing a New Jersey street with two grandchildren, killing a toddler and injuring the others. Elizabeth officials say the crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. Witnesses say the grandmother was carrying the 2-year-old, who was tossed into the air by the impact. The woman and other child, who is 4 years old, are being treated at a hospital for undisclosed injuries. The girl was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Sofia Flores was pronounced dead about an hour after the accident on Rahway Avenue in Elizabeth Monday. Her grandmother, 55-year-old Anna Chacon, was listed in critical but stable condition at a hospital after undergoing brain surgery Monday afternoon, hospital officials said.
