For reasons unknown, the motorcycle left the road and rolled up onto the grass at the Skylands Road intersection, then reentered the roadway and struck a guardrail, police said.

After striking the guardrail, the motorcycle continued into the woods. The motorcyclist was found be officer Brian DePree and was pronounced dead at the scene.
