Owego man dies after a crash at Broome Tioga Sports Center

An Owego man died Sunday after losing control of his vehicle and being struck by another at the Broome Tioga Sports Center. 

Autocross driver dies in race collision at upstate NY track

State police say a 38-year-old man has died during an autocross race at a dirt track on New York's Southern Tier.
A fatal motor vehicle accident occurred involving two race cars participating in an Autocross race on the dirt track at the Broome Tioga Sports Center. Racer Michael Smith, 38, of Owego, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer when he lost control of the vehicle and rolled over and was then hit by another racer, Mitchel Quail, 35, of Richfield. Police said Quail was driving a 1997 Toyota Camry and was unable to avoid the crash. Smith suffered a head injury, and was taken to Wilson Hospital where he later died. Police said Quail was not injured.
