A car struck two people Sunday morning outside of a firehouse on Long Island, killing one of the pedestrians, police said.

Suffolk County Police said the driver, 80-year-old Ann Riolo, forgot to put the car in drive. Instead, “she left it in reverse, hit the gas, started speeding backwards, lost control and jumped the sidewalk,” said Officer James Murphy.
The mother of three saw the car coming towards them, and pushed her daughter out of the way.
