She was walking home and talking on her cellphone when the sheet of wood slammed into her about 5:50 p.m. and knocked her head into a wall, police said.
A Philadelphia native died Tuesday evening in Manhattan when a piece of plywood fell from a construction site and hit her. Tram Thuy Nguyen, 37, was across the street when the large piece of construction fence from a building site fell and hit her. The construction project has been shut down during an investigation. Turner Construction Co., the general contractor on the project, is working with authorities on the investigation into the incident.
