At a curve on highway 210, just past the intersection at Borough Road, one of the vehicles traveled into the eastbound shoulder and crossed the center line which caused the collision.

Ward and his passenger, Chesney Fairclough, 28, of Jacksonville, both died as a result of the wreck. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
