Two people were transported Wednesday morning to area hospitals after a two-vehicle crash on Route 283 westbound in East Hempfield Township in which a Jeep Wrangler overturned. The driver of the Wrangler was ejected from the vehicle, but suffered injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, township police said. The crash occurred around 6:03 a.m. and briefly blocked both westbound lanes of Route 283 in the area of Spooky Nook Road. The driver of the other vehicle — a Nissan Versa — also suffered injuries that were not believed to be life threatening, township police said. The driver of the Versa tried to avoid the Wrangler, which was spinning in the roadway, by moving to the right shoulder, but police said the driver went into a ditch and struck a fence. Both drivers were transported by ambulance to unspecified hospitals. East Hempfield Township police were assisted by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, firefighters from Hempfield and East Petersburg, Susquehanna Valley EMS and towing crews.
