Driver dies, kids hurt in school van crash in Indiana County

A woman who was driving a school van with children on board died in a crash Friday afternoon in Indiana County.

Ms. Stapleton, 32, of Clymer, was driving the school van and died from blunt force trauma in the collision, which occurred on Route 403 at Kenwood Road at 3:43 p.m. in Cherryhill, Indiana County, state police said.

The accident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. when a Hyundai sport utility vehicle driven by Travis Nichol, 25, crossed the centerline, striking the van, according to investigators. Nichol suffered “major injuries,” police said.
It was about 3:43 p.m. when Lisa Ann Stapleton, 32, was driving a school van full of children to the north on Route 403, and was struck head on by a southbound SUV driven by 25-year-old Travis Nichol, who swerved into the northbound lane while negotiating a curve. Stapleton was killed in the accident, while Nichol and the 68-year-old man who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the van were both hospitalized in serious condition. Three young boys in the van, ages 6, 9, and 10, sustained moderate injuries. We will add more information to this story as it becomes available.

terrible. young drives need to be aware and less careless while behind the wheel of a vehicle. This young man will have to live with this death on his hands for him entire life and should think how easily it could have also been the death of 3 young children. my child goes to Penns Manor and if i were the parents of the children involved i would ensure this young man realizes how serious "distractions" are behind the wheel.

I know Lisa ,shame on the impatient driver, was it worth it.
