One person dead following Friday night crash on Garner's Ferry

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a two car crash on Garner's Ferry Road that left one dead and two hospitalized. Friday when a Honda Civic, trying to turn left onto Lower Richland Boulevard, was hit by a Ford Explorer. The driver of the Ford Explorer was wearing a seat belt but was also injured. The driver of the Civic was not wearing a seat belt and was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries. The Explorer was coming from the opposite way and struck the Civic's passenger side.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a two car crash on Garners Ferry Road that killed a 12-year-old and injured two. Friday when a Honda Civic, trying to turn left onto Lower Richland Boulevard, was hit by a Ford Explorer. The driver of the Ford Explorer was wearing a seat belt but was also injured. Troopers say the driver of the Civic was not wearing a seat belt and was taken to a local hospital. Richland County Coroner says 12-year-old Naquan Nasier Cornish-Smith, the backseat passenger, was ejected and later died at Palmetto Health Richland.

Students honor life of 12-year-old killed in crash

Both brother were students at the SC Science Academy in Columbia where teachers say 12-year-old Naquan was excelling his studies and making friends with his peers. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash. The car they were riding in was hit by a SUV on Garners Ferry Road. The school honored his memory on Friday by lighting candles and releasing balloons. His stepbrother is still recovering from injuries at an area hospital.
