41-year-old man struck and killed, after walking close to the traffic lanes on Highway 112 in Tooele.

A man died in an auto-pedestrian accident in Tooele Monday morning.

Tooele police Capt. Paul Wimmer said 41-year-old man was walking along the shoulder near Highway 112 and Industrial Loop Road about 7 a.m. when he was struck from behind by a car.

Wimmer said witnesses told officers that the man had been walking on or along the white line, dangerously close to the travel lanes, just prior to being hit.

He was dead at the scene, Wimmer said.

No citations were issued to the 30-year-old male driver. While the incident remained under investigation, Wimmer said it appeared the driver was not impaired or driving erratically, and that the victim — dressed in dark clothing — "just may have stepped too far" from the shoulder.

The man’s identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
