A man has died after being hit by a vehicle along Warwick Boulevard early Friday morning.
A spokeswoman with the Newport News Police Department said the crash occurred just before 2:30 a.m. The driver, 29-year-old Kegan Michael Bilger of Newport News, called police after the incident.
An investigation found the pedestrian was walking on the side of the road from the Ft. Eustis off-ramp onto the southbound lanes of Warwick Boulevard. Bilger was traveling southbound on Warwick.
The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead about an hour later. He has not been identified at this time.
Further investigation caused Bilger to be arrested and charged with DUI third offense and involuntary manslaughter.
McPherson said the area is poorly lit. The crash remains under investigation. It is not known at this time if Bilger’s license was valid at the time of the crash.
