Isle of Wight: 50-year-old man killed in head-on crash with tractor trailer.
A 50-year-old Isle of Wight County man was killed Friday morning in a head-on collision on Route 258, a Virginia State Police spokeswoman said.
Martin David Johnson, of the Carrsville section of the county, died shortly after 4:30 a.m. when the 1991 Nissan pickup truck he was driving on Route 258, also known as Old Courthouse Highway, crossed over the solid lines and struck a Kenworth tractor trailer head-on, said a spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police.
Johnson was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash but died upon impact, police said. The 51-year-old Smithfield man who was driving the tractor trailer was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The tractor trailer was carrying grease, but there was no loss of load in the crash.
Route 258 was shutdown for more than four hours Friday so State Police could investigate and clear the scene. During the road closure, Virginia Department of Transportation officials rerouted traffic to Route 652
