Man faces DUI charge in deadly pursuit.

Police say one person was killed and others were hurt in a three-car crash in Virginia Beach Sunday.

The three vehicle accident occurred after 10 p.m. near the intersection of Lynnhaven Parkway and Pleasant Valley Road, a spokeswoman for the Virginia Beach Police Department.

At about 10 p.m., an officer on patrol near Lynnhaven Parkway and Princess Anne Road attempted to stop a Suzuki XL7 after it was seen breaking traffic laws. When the vehicle didn't stop, the officer began to pursue the vehicle, which was headed south on Lynnhaven Parkway.

At the intersection of Lynnhaven Parkway and Pleasant Valley Road, the vehicle struck a 2005 Chrysler van traveling east on Pleasant Valley Road, Borman said. After being hit, the van traveled into the northbound lane of Lynnhaven Parkway and struck a third vehicle.The Suzuki flipped onto its roof and caught fire.

The driver of the van was prounounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Suzuki was ejected from the vehicle and police were able to get two passengers out of the burning vehicle.

The three people were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The third vehicle received minor damaged, and no one was injured in the crash.
