A VDOT contract worker was killed when a dump truck struck him in Loudoun County.

A VDOT contract worker was killed when a dump truck struck him in Loudoun County.

Just before 6 a.m., the worker pulled his truck onto the right shoulder of Belmont Ridge Road at the intersection of Chesterton Street in Ashburn. According to Virginia State Police, he was standing at the rear of the truck when he was struck by another VDOT dump truck.

The contract worker was transported to Loudoun Hospital Center, where he died from his injuries.

The second driver was not injured.

While the cause of the crash is not known at this time, road conditions in the D.C. area have been treacherous because of the heavy snowfall.
