A Washougal man was hurt when his car veered off of state Highway 14 Sunday evening and struck a tree.

Jeffrey S. Lindsay, 35, was treated for his injuries at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center and then released.

Washington State Patrol said at 4:47 p.m. Lindsay was driving a 2001 Mazda Tribute eastbound where the highway narrows from three to two lanes near the 164th Avenue exit. Lindsay did not merge properly, drifted onto the right shoulder, and then swerved into the right lane and collided with a 2003 Chrysler Sebring driven by Lucia A. Worthington, 71, of Washougal, according to the patrol's report.

Then, the patrol said, Lindsay swerved back onto the right shoulder and struck a tree.

Worthington's car spun toward the left shoulder and hit a concrete barrier, the patrol said.

Lindsay's car was totaled.

Worthington's car had damage but was driven from the scene, the patrol said. Worthington was not injured, the patrol said.

The report said both drivers were using seat belts and that alcohol or drugs were not suspected.

Lindsay was cited for failure to yield the right of way and for driving with a suspended license.
