U.S. 12 crash near Yakima sends 2 to hospital

Martinez and Cruz-Cruz were wearing seat belts, and intoxicants were not suspected, authorities said. Both vehicles were destroyed in the accident, troopers said.

Two drivers were injured in a rear-end crash on U.S. Highway 12 west of Yakima. Israel Cruz-Cruz, 21, of Yakima, and Maria N. Martinez, 45, of Granger, were transported to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released. Martinez, driving a Nissan Maxima, was stopped for backed-up traffic at Ackley Road about 6:50 a.m. Tuesday when Cruz-Cruz hit her car from behind with a Honda Civic.
