A 19-year-old man faces two felonies in connection with an Oconto County crash that killed his friend.

Zachary J. E. Romnek is charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and knowingly operating a motor vehicle while suspended-causing death.

Nineteen-year-old Thorton L. Gressler of Bonduel died at the crash scene in the town of Riverview, about eight miles northeast of Mountain.

The criminal complaint says the crash occurred around 2:25 a.m. Saturday when Romnek's pickup truck went off the road and rolled into a tree.

If convicted of both charges, he could face a maximum sentence of 31 years.

Romnek made an initial appearance in Oconto County Circuit Court Monday afternoon, where a judge set $5,000 cash bond.

I don't know Zach but I know his brothers. GREAT people. My heart breaks for you. "...when you saw only one set of footprints it was then that I carried you." Stay strong.

This is a great kid who has lost his best friend. Cops said in court that he wasn't speeding and wasn't over alc. limit. Wiped out on ice. People should be told truth.
